Prachi Bakarania has been an active member since 2017. She was an active committee member and served as the co-chair of the communications committee from 2017 to 2023. She is a physical therapist working at a university outpatient clinic specializing in the non operative management of structural spinal conditions. She is looking forward to serving on the board of SOSORT.

In 1982, Jean Claude de Mauroy published in Spine “Reciprocal angulation of vertebral bodies in a sagittal plane: approach to references for the evaluation of kyphosis and lordosis”. Kyphosis is the basis of vertebrate bipedalism. In the sagittal plane of function of homo sapiens, kyphosis is located between two lordosis, forming an isostatic balance according to pelvic incidence. The anterior and posterior muscular chains and fascias form a Tensegrity system that enables high-level sporting activity. This system remains fragile, however, and can be disrupted by a number of mechanisms.

Angelo Gabriele Aulisa, MD, has been a member of SOSORT since 2007. He has served as President (2021-2022), Member At Large, Treasurer and Scientific Meeting Chair. Angelo is a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon who is committed to the appropriate use of non-operative techniques to treat spinal disorders. Angelo is the author of several book chapters and peer-reviewed papers on the conservative treatment of scoliosis.

Dr. Baldwin is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in pediatric orthopedics and spine surgery with an emphasis on the surgical and nonsurgical treatment of pediatric spinal deformity including scoliosis and kyphosis. She is passionate about providing the best possible care to all children and their families through open communication and assessment of patient and family needs.

Dr. Larry Cohen, PhD is a physiotherapist and has been a member of SOSORT since 2011 and is serving as our treasurer. He has a MSc in exercise Physiology, completed Harvard’s Principles and Practice of Clinical Research certificate course, and holds a PhD focusing much of his work on spinal sagittal balance. He has been a volunteer gymnastics coach and been a physiotherapist for the Special Olympics and Olympics. He owns a private physical therapy practice in Australia. My interest is in treating and understanding scoliosis in order to minimize its long-term impact on patients as they age into adulthood and later stages of life, with a specific focus on quality of life.
